The Mysterious Scott Spock

The Mysterious Scott Spock

I had heard about him ever since Avril Lavigne broke out with her smash hits “Complicated” and “Sk8ter Boi.” He was part of “The Matrix” music production team that gave Avril & others their hits, their sound, their direction, and in some cases, their stardom. Britney Spears, Korn, Hilary Duff, Shakira, David Bowie, Katy Perry – he’s worked with them all. And he’s still hot.

For example, he co-wrote Rihanna’s latest song “Cheers” – in 4 months the music video already has over 61 million views. But Scott Spock is about a lot more than music.

A Geek with a Hat

Swizec Teller is the blogger who wrote “Why Programmers Work at Night,” an article that caused a 5000% spike in his blog traffic. It helped explain and justify why developers keep vampire hours – something most people find abnormal and don’t understand. So geeks shared it. By the 4th day, he had 627 + (likes) on google plus, 550 tweets mentioning the article, 288 new twitter followers, 475 comments on Reddit, 173 comments on his own blog, 89,000 visitors on a single day – compared to his average 30,000 visitors a MONTH. He’s a true geek, he works at night, he hangs out with geeks and he’s finishing his degree in computer science. But there’s more.

Funny John Draper Article Translation

(Bogota, Colombia) The life of yank John Draper altered because of a whistle (from) Captain Crisis cereal boxes. Crunchman or even Captain Meltdown, is known as Draper, designed their own doll, a azure box (blue box), to generate phone hacking…The actual whistle of Skipper Crunch (Captain Crunch) cereal developed a sound with a frequency of 2,600 hertz… “How performed your life?” I became not popular until I’d been arrested with 1972. It was a time of good insecurity along with uncertainty. This helped me to find out and to separate myself via people I can put in danger…

CES Hodgepodge & a Money Bumbling Inventor

First of all, I had to go check out the Motorola Xoom to see what all the hype was about. My friends kept asking if I had seen the Motorola Xoom – the new competitor to the iPad that won Best of Show) but since I missed it, I went back to CES just to check it out. In the process I randomly met a fascinating but bumbling genius with a parrot and a suitcase full of cash. His LinkedIn describes him as “Audacious Pioneering Visionary, Researcher, Scientist, Engineer, Innovator, Educator, Editor, Lifelong Parallel Entrepreneur, Executive, Mentor, Investor, Producer, 3D Filmmaker, Peacemaker, Senior Consultant.” I got some priceless Mitnick pics, saw a killer new fashion technology and more.

A Match Made in (Hacker) Heaven

They met at a Def Con hacker convention nine years ago. They had their first date and first kiss at a Def Con convention a couple years later. They got engaged at another Def Con. They got engaged at another Def Con. After being together for nine years in “an emotional marriage,” Vandal and Eris (their hacker nicknames) made their marriage legal at 3PM at the Royale Riviera Wedding Chapel in the Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, NV. July 28th, 2010, at Def Con 18. Theirs is a rare, eccentric, romantic and geeky love story, the kind that comes about as often as Haley’s comet, or once a century.

Fairwell James Heseldon, RIP

Philanthropist and inventor James Heseldon, owner of the company that makes the beloved geekmobile Segway, died in an accident on Sunday when he apparently drove his machine off a cliff on his estate in West Yorkshire England. Although he didn’t invent the Segway, he certainly enjoyed the Segway (invented by Dean Kamen) but Heseldon invented other things. According to PC World, Heselden was a miner and engineer that invented “a sort of Jersey Barrier for battlefields,” or a portable containment system made of a wire cage that can be filled with earth and sand, and used as a defense barrier to bullets, missiles, and suicide-bomber attacks.
